Make sure to check out the new site. After going through the pages, I was ready to pack my bags and head for Newburyport…and I live here!
As much as you can catch the vibrant energy of historic preservationists, the website is just in itself plain inviting.
I am doubly excited because now I can get behind city-wide efforts while before I was in the dark and had no idea what was going on!
It is very demoralizing to care enough for a great cause and to feel like you are the only one. In the Bible, it talks about Elijah the great prophet and God found him hiding in a cave.
Elijah complained and said, "I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts…I alone am left" And God reminded him that there were yet 7,000 souls in Israel that had not abandoned Him. (I Kings 19:14-19)
I personally think that here in Newburyport, there are a great many people who intensely wish to protect the good thing we have here in Newburyport. They care very much and want to do ‘something’ to preserve our historic district, our very sensitive and beautiful environment and to guard jealously our high quality of life. They recognize the many threats but feel helpless. The Preservation Trust now has a tool to reach out and equip this ‘individual’.
The Historical Society of Old Newbury has been around for a long time and they have some 1000 plus members. The Custom House has been around since the 70’s and they have about 300 plus members. The Trust has only been around a few years and they already have 220 plus members so I know there is a great number of concerned citizens.
There are a lot more than just a handful of us that can make a difference in Newburyport. Check out the website and find out how.
