Well, all this great redoing of the historic brick sidewalks is causing sidewalk envy. Who can blame them, the condition of many a homeowner’s front sidewalk is often deplorable. Many with the means will find a contractor to lay down a decent sidewalk. That’s how its done in a City that was broke for half of the 20th century.
Green with envy, many are complaining that High Street is getting preferential treatment.
It is true that the DPS with the little money they have is focusing on some key sidewalks on High Street. It should. It is the first street for most visitors to Newburyport and we need to look sharp. I for one, though, have noticed several side streets that have been redone. I am uncertain if the City did it or a group of property owners decided to enhance their ‘values’.
Either way, it’s a great trend.
