Newburyport is packed with news.

I am just shocked how silent the Internet is about our local area.       Has Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter sucked all the bloggers into infinity?      Each individual who setup blogs took a lot of time to do it; wouldn’t you think it would be nice if they used them on a regular basis?     I know that the city is full of humble citizens. (I am saying this seriously not sarcastically.)    But wouldn’t you think that someone out there feels they have something important to say and to share it with the rest of us?

The Newburyport Daily News is not setup for investigative reporting like the Eagle-Tribune.    In fact, it is very rare and I might add refreshing that the paper of record is doing some detailed analysis on the crisis that our local fishermen are facing.  Unfortunately, with the recent layoffs, news links like the Current and the DN are largely living off press releases.

THE PROBLEM IS OUR DEMOCRACY IS BASED ON AN INFORMED PUBLIC.

Regional, state and national news sources are rich and varied, But locally, it is a wasteland.

The only way to find out local issues that may come up is to get blogging posts that inform FROM DIFFERENT SECTORS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND FROM DIFFERENT VIEWPOINTS.

Several of our city councilors have blogs and many local individuals have blogs but the amount of postings are few and far between.

We desperately need more contributions to fill in the local news gap.

Bloggers – please blog!
