I’ve been around for a long time and I don’t think I have ever seen the City more beat up after a bout of winter weather than I have now.
The entire structure of Newburyport as pretty as it is was designed to put up with ferocious weather. Even so, I have never seen frost heaves on our roads as pronounced as they are this year. And of course, the potholes are sprouting everywhere and some of them are extremely long and wide.
The waterfront and the parks have been expressly hit hard and Operation Clean Sweep is still a month away.
With a tight budget this year, City Hall is going to need as many concerned citizens and hard-working volunteers it can muster if we are going to be put back together in time for the tourist season.
That’s a hint by the way.
