Well, I’ll leave West Newbury to their own devices from now on – they voted overwhelmingly to reduce the CPA surcharge down to an insignificant amount. Unfortunately, as I have said, there are enough Hill Williams over there to keep it at 3% which means we in Newburyport lose out getting a larger share of CPA matching funds.
What I figure is, the majority of residents over there are using Ma & Pa Kettle math. The Kettle movies were a series of films showing the humorous exposure of country bumpkins to the sophistication of modern and urban life and it ran during the 1930’s and 40’s and early 50’s when there was a great influx of people into the cities fleeing the devastation of the great dust bowls and of the Great Depression.
The way I figure, this ‘surfisticated’ math they are using explains West Newbury residents’ mindset.
