Daily News has been terribly silent about the entire Preservation Week. This could be because they have to be stimulated by daily press releases to awaken their stupor or they are deliberately ignoring this important week due to prodding by dark siders and self-serving developers.
Apparently they are adopting the moniker, “If you can’t say anything nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.”
It’s so bad that re-hashed news has become more important than notifying the citizens of this important week.
Historic Preservation turned Newburyport into what it is today.
People hear with incredulity when people such as Andre Dubus III and others speak of the old City with its gangs, its poverty and its grim downtown and waterfront.
Citizens and recent new arrivals need to understand they are joining an already great movement of rehabilitation and resurrection of this ancient 18th century seaport.
The more they join that effort, the wealthier our city becomes.
It is criminal neglect for the paper of record to turn its back on what transformed Newburyport.*
* Hopefully, the paper will remember all the great events occurring this weekend and I will be forced to make some sort of retraction. I hope so, I am waiting to pick up tomorrow’s issue and we’ll see if my observations are correct!
