Yes, it’s the beginning of the political season and yes, the Mayor has no one running against her – so many will probably not show up in great numbers on election day. (Amesbury had just 15% show up for their primary, for the Mayor’s office!)
It’s precisely because of that reason that everyone should re-double their efforts.
The candidates who will be elected will ride not on a majority vote but by the efforts of a dedicated minority. And like it or not, depending on your point of view, the agenda of that minority* will decide the future fate of Newburyport for years to come.
I’ve been here long enough to live through the term of office of the wrong candidates or the wrong mayor…and our beloved city has suffered for it for years. (i.e. Cherry Hill, Landfills, Vinyl Village & a stagnated waterfront.)
The idea that you elect someone, walk away and let them do their ‘thing’ is long past.
THE BASELINE ISSUES THAT AFFECT NEWBURYPORT VIA THIS ELECTION WILL BE FELT FOR YEARS TO COME AND PERHAPS DECADES FAR INTO THE FUTURE.
When going to the voting booth on November 8th, understand your vote will have an enormous impact.
BE SURE TO SHOW UP AND VOTE!
* I shutter to think if the dark side get more of their members back in!
