The demolition delay that was filed for 257-259 Water Street has been withdrawn.
In other words, you don’t need to show up to do the hard task of convincing a homeowner with $$$$$$ signs in their eyes, that they should for the sake of the community and the neighbors, forsake the dream of making a killing in the real estate market.
Of course, if you want to show up to encourage the diplomatic and wise bunch on the Historical Commission trying to protect a City that has no protections*, then by all means. Sometimes it gets depressing if the only people who show up want to do ‘something’ to a historical house and it’s usually something terrible!
* In a way I was disappointed. We’ve got city council candidates, Bill Plante and a host of other citizens who refuse to recognize the decimation and destruction going on in the Newburyport Historical District. I wanted to use this demolition application as a case for why the ‘entire’ National Register should be protected not just High Street and the Downtown. Unfortunately, there will be more down the road that I can use as examples!
